We’re already through the first month of our season here in Chama, and are enjoying beautiful blue skies and green trees and meadows. The cottonwoods are finally leafed out, and wild irises are beginning to bloom across the foothills. There is still a bit of snow on the high peaks and north facing slopes, but daytime temperatures this week have been in the mid-60’s to low 70’s. Evenings are still cool, with one camper claiming that it was 33 chilly degrees when he walked to the trainyard on Wednesday. The Rio Chama alongside the park is beginning to attract fishermen who are excited at their chances.
For those of you from the warm south, remember that Chama’s June and July temperatures hang in the high 70’s and low 80’s during the day. As a Texan myself, I know that I enjoy the relief from hot southern days with high humidity. We’re only a day and a half drive from South Texas, and many people who just can’t wait drive directly from Dallas or Shreveport in one day. Call 575-756-2303 to join us and escape the heat!
