I rode the train Sunday and was amazed by the number of Elk and Mule Deer we saw. Every time you ride the C&TS or take an evening drive up to Cumbres Pass, you see wildlife. Even here in the campground, we are regularly exposed to Deer, Elk, Raccoons, Skunks (!), chipmunks and squirrels, and a large variety of birds.
But Sunday was special — we saw large numbers of elk and deer out in plain site. Of course, there were the normal animals hiding in the trees or under-brush but Sunday there were animals running everywhere. We saw baby elk (calves) and their mother cows. We saw deer, a bobcat, cooper and red-tailed hawks. A few people saw a porcupine (i missed it) and one fellow from Switzerland saw a flock of white rock “antelope” just before the whole train saw a small flock of real pronghorns.
